How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars

Acne scars can really mess with our self-esteem.😔  Though sometimes I gotta admit, yes it was my fault for keep picking on my acne. But I only meant to pop its content! Ending up with this scar wasn't in the plan at all! Right, ladies? Who else can relate? 🤣 Well, at least we learned from mistakes. No more reckless pimple poppin' session after this! Now what do I do with this scar on my face?

Those acne scars can still go away with a proper care. Try out these tips on how to get rid of those scars 👇

1. Use non-irritating cleanser and avoid abrasive scrubs

Irritating cleansers are sometimes the main culprit to why our skin never gets better. Ingredients such as SD alcohol, alcohol denat, menthol and fragrances can be very irritating especially when our skin is already vulnerable. And you know what's worse? Thinking that abrasive scrubs can get rid of those blemishes on our skin, when in fact, they are just causing more damage! Our skin is super delicate. We shouldn't treat it like it's some kind of dirty cloth. 🤦‍♀️

2. Exfoliate using BHA (salicylic acid)

Rather than using those harmful abrasive scrub, try exfoliating with BHA (salicylic acid). It is known for its potential to help reduce dead skin cells and clogged pores. 🙌 There are a lot of BHA exfoliants with different percentages in the market. For beginners, it's highly recommended to start with 1% to 2% concentration every once a week. Once the skin has gotten used to the acid, we can always increase the frequency of usage. But remember, never exfoliate more than three times a week! ☝

3. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF30

There are a large number of sunscreens that you can get even from the drugstore alone. Always go for at least a minimum of SPF30 protection and never ever forget to reapply every 2 to 3 hours. 🙆‍♀️ Is sunscreen a must? Well girls and boys and everyone, the answer is yes!!! 💯 Everyone should wear sunscreen as we are all exposed to the sun everyday. Especially with the current heat wave in Malaysia, imagine how much damage not wearing sunscreen can do to our skin. 😨

4. Apply Vitamin C

Vitamin C serum is said to be the one of the most effective ingredients for skin lightening.🙌 It creates a blockage for abnormal pigment production and brighten the scars. It is also rich in antioxidant that helps to fight skin aging by promoting the production of collagen. 👩‍🚒

5. Add product with retinol or retinyl palmitate in your routine

Retinol helps to continuously speed up the cell turnover so it is especially good for scars and hyperpigmentation. 💯 It promotes the cell to divide more rapidly and push out cells with discoloured pigments. Retinol is quite strong in nature so its best to pair with a treatment cream. 🙆‍♀️

The key is consistency. 🔑 Healing an acne scar may be time consuming, so just be patient and never give up on taking a good care of your skin. ✨ For a serious acne scars problem, however, it is best to consult a skin specialist as it may need a special attention and specific medication for treating the problem.
